Project 19734 Soldier Support
Date Posted: Friday, February 13th, 2015Veteran’s Affairs Committee would like to announce Project 19734 Soldier Support.
At January’s VA committee meeting, Mayor Raughley, Councilman Hanlin and I (Karen Jennings) added Project 19734 Soldier Support to our agenda in efforts to show our appreciation and gratitude to our Townsend Residents currently deployed. Project 19734 Soldier Support will collect care package donations for Townsend’s deployed soldiers. U.S. Troops are currently deployed all over the world and currently fighting in several countries, including Afghanistan and Iraq. Thousands of troops are serving peacekeeping missions, many in Europe, Asia, and Africa. It is the mission of the VA Committee to show our support for Townsend’s military members, deployed and serving our great Country.
The Project 19734 Soldier Support donation basket is located at Townsend’s Town Hall. Suggested donations include: gratitude letters, children’s “thank you hero” drawings, Beanie Babies (soldiers like to give these little gifts to the local children), coffee (Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts), socks, magazines, books, personal hygiene products, snacks and goodies. Please remember, boxes will be shipped in extreme weather conditions, so avoid items susceptible to heat.
Donations collected will be equally distributed into care packages and shipped to Townsend’s deployed soldiers. If you have a family member, friend, neighbor or know of a resident in the 19734 Townsend zip code that is currently deployed, please contact
Councilwoman Jennings or Executive Secretary Cathy Beaver. It is important that we send all of Townsend’s deployed soldiers care packages in effort to show our support and say thank you.
