Mayor & Council
The five (5) member Town Council is comprised of a Mayor and four (4) other members, all of whom reside within the incorporated Town limits and each of whom shall be elected by the registered Town voters. The Mayor shall be elected from within the Council by a majority of the members of each newly elected Council immediately following each annual municipal election, and shall serve in the capacity of Mayor for one year until the next said election.
Each Town Councilperson shall serve a term, which shall be for a period of two (2) years.
Two (2) Councilpersons shall be elected on even years to fill the vacancies created by the expiration of the terms of Office of the two (2) then-outgoing Councilpersons. Three (3) Councilpersons shall be elected on odd years to fill the vacancies created by the expiration of the terms of Office of the three (3) then-outgoing Councilpersons

Meetings of the Mayor and Town Council of Townsend are held the first Wednesday of every month at 7:30 pm at the Townsend Municipal Building at 141 Main Street, Townsend, DE.
