The Town of Townsend and the Diamond State Pickleball Club will be hosting an Introduction to Pickleball Event on Tuesday, June 28th from 10:30 am- 12:30 pm.  The event will be held at the Townsend Municipal Park located at 0 Edgar Rd., Townsend. DE 19734.

This construction includes some repairs to the exterior fencing & gate access to the court on Friday, June 17, 2022. The court will be closed on this date during the working hours of 7am-4pm.

Statement from Chesapeake Utilities Corporation:

Beginning June 13, crews will perform work on behalf of Chesapeake Utilities Corporation in Townsend. The crews are working to extend natural gas pipeline to improve natural gas infrastructure for the community. Temporary lane closures may occur. Crews are expected to complete work at the beginning of August, pending unforeseen delays due to weather conditions.

We regret any temporary inconveniences you may experience during construction. While every effort will be made to provide continuous automobile and pedestrian traffic while the work is being completed, please be aware of any temporary parking restrictions, road/sidewalk closures or detours that may be posted.

The Town of Townsend, DE is seeking applications for the position of Administrative Assistant.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Administrative Assistant is responsible for providing administrative functions for the Town. The position requires the ability to communicate information from the Town Charter, Codes, general law and policies to businesses, citizens, and employees, and ensure that municipal services are provided in an effective and efficient manner. This position takes direction primarily from and reports initially to the Town Clerk and the Town Manager. This position is one of the initial contacts for the public to the Town. This position requires the ability to sit at a workstation for extended periods, to assist the public at the front desk, and to ascend and descend stairs to access Town records, stock supplies, and file records. 

JOB DUTIES:

The Administrative Assistant will greet visitors entering Town Hall, and those contacting via telephone or email, to provide information in a courteous manner, researching and analyzing data to determine answers to, and provide information within the scope of knowledge and authority, and referring to higher classification employee, as applicable.  The candidate will provide assistance with the building permit process and will assist with issuing contractor licenses, and all other licenses and permits required by the Town under the supervision of the Town Clerk and the Town Manager.  The Administrative Assistant will assist with filing, scanning, and maintaining records in accordance with document retention procedures.  The Administrative Assistant will process and prepare correspondence or other documents from dictation, handwritten drafts, and verbal instruction.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

The ideal candidate will have three to five years of administrative assistant experience Candidates with comparable experience are encouraged to apply.  High school diploma or equivalent education is required.  

Proficiency in Microsoft Office, good organizational and communication skills, and the ability to deal effectively with the public are a must.

The successful candidate must pass a background check and drug test. Salary is dependent upon education and experience. An excellent benefit package is provided.

2022 Town of Townsend Town Council Reorganization

2022 Town of Townsend Town Council Reorganization

On Wednesday, June 1, 2022, the Town of Townsend held its annual reorganization meeting.  At this meeting, Scott Lobdell, one of the Town Council Candidates for a two-year term was sworn in and seated in accordance with the Town Ordinance. His term will expire in June 2024. 

Following the swearing in of Councilman Lobdell there were two remaining vacant seats on Council, the sitting Councilmembers appointed two members to one-year Council terms, in accordance with the Town Charter.  Appointed members were Edgar Dugan and Sheryl Rojas.  Both Edgar Dugan and Sheryl Rojas were sworn-in at the reorganization meeting of the Town Council and their terms will expire in June 2023. 

After the Councilmembers were seated, the Town Council elected Councilman Scott Lobdell to serve as Mayor of the Town of Townsend.  The Mayor serves a one-year term. 

Mayor Lobdell’s first duty after taking the chair, was to announce his appointments of Councilmembers to Committees.  The following Committees were established, and the following Council members were appointed:

Over the next few weeks, committees will work with Mayor Lobdell to establish priorities and annual objectives.

The Town of Townsend is hosting a Wildlife Photo Contest!  Please submit photos of local wildlife by June 20th, 2022.  Up to 3 photos can be submitted in one of two ways: 1. Facebook using (hashtag) #TownofTownsend.  Please include the location of where the photo was taken in Townsend (19734) and the date of when it was taken.  OR 2. Winners will be chosen to win a free 1- year certification of a National Wildlife Federation Habitat/ Garden and will have their photo showcased at Townsend Town Hall through May 30th, 2023.
