GFL to Collect Christmas Trees for Disposal Monday, January 9th, 2023

Santa and his elves will be back Monday, January 9th, 2023 to collect the holiday trees!

Tree collection is not an easy job but you can help:

  • Please remove all lights and decorations.
  • Cut down any trees over 6 feet tall.
  • Tree bags are not allowed in the sleigh.
  • Place the trees at the curb the night before

Town Hall Closed in Recognition of New Year’s 2023

In recognition of the New Year,  Townhall will be closed on Monday, January 2nd, 2023.  

Municipal waste services will continue to operate on an uninterrupted schedule, with pickup on Monday, January 2nd, 2023.  

Town Hall Closed in Recognition of the Christmas Eve and Christmas Day Holidays

In recognition of the Christmas Holidays, Townhall will be closed on Friday, December 23, 2022 and on Monday, December 26, 2022.  
 
Municipal waste services will continue to operate on an uninterrupted schedule, with pickup on Monday, December 26th, 2022.

Winter Weather Tips

As we move into the winter season the Town of Townsend would like to share the following information and tips to ensure a safe winter season. 

In accordance with Townsend Municipal Code Section 10.04.020 Snow And Ice On Sidewalks”

“It shall be unlawful for the owner or occupant of any premises in the town immediately in front of, beside or behind a sidewalk to permit or allow snow or ice to remain thereon for longer than 12 hours after daylight after it shall have ceased snowing. The town may have snow remaining in violation of this section removed immediately and charge the cost of removal to the owner or occupant of his property abutting the sidewalk.”

In the event of a serious snow event, a Declaration of Snow Emergency will be declared in accordance with Townsend Municipal Code Section 10.08 Snow Emergencies, Prohibited Parking.  In the event of a Declared Snow Emergency, residents will be notified via Code Red, the Town Website and the Town Facebook page. Residents will also be directed to park on the even-numbered side of all streets in Townsend in accordance with the Townsend Municipal Code.

Reminder to Pickup After Dogs Within Town

This is a friendly reminder to all residents regarding dog waste.  Per the Town of Townsend Municipal Code:  

    1. It shall be unlawful for any person having possession, custody or control of any dog to permit such animal to damage, defile, or defecate upon any private property within the town limits not owned or leased by such person, or any public property within the town, including, but not limited to, streets, alleys, curbs, sidewalks, or parks.
    2. If the excrement is removed immediately and disposed of in a sanitary manner by the owner or person in charge of the dog, it will not be considered a violation of this section.
    3. The provisions of this section shall not apply to a guide dog accompanying any blind person or to a dog assisting any other physically challenged person.

Please be courteous and respectful to your neighbors and community and pick up after your pets.

Town Council will be judging homes on or about December 15th and 16th. Winners will be announced at the January 4th, 2022 Town Council meeting.

Judges decisions are final.

 

No registration is Necessary! Just show us your lights!

So let’s see Santa, light the Menorah, and drink from the Unity Cup!

 

There will be 2 categories for the contest:

1. Modern Utilizing Light Movement & Blowups

2. Traditional- Static displays with limited light movement

Let the holiday spirit sparkle!

Public Notice: Survey Crews Throughout Town Beginning 12/16/2022

Please take note that beginning on 12/16/2022, Remington and Vernick Engineers will have survey crews on site throughout the Town to collect storm water assets for the Town of Townsend, over the next few weeks.  Should you have any questions or concerns, please contact Townsend Town Hall at 302-378-8082 or townhall@townsend.delaware.gov.  

DelDOT Notice of Public Open House: Townsend Bicycle & Pedestrian Master Plan

Townsend Bicycle Pedestrian Master Plan Public Notice

The Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) along with its consultants, invites the public to attend a public workshop regarding the Townsend Bicycle & Pedestrian Master Plan. The public is invited to:

  • Review and provide comments on DelDOT’s analysis of current bicycle and pedestrian facilities within the project area; and
  • Share their ideas and preferences for locations and priorities of bicycle and pedestrian improvements within Townsend town limits.

This workshop will also provide an update on the overall study and schedule.

The workshop will be held at Town Hall of Townsend on January 4, 2023, from 5:00 to 6:30 PM. Interested persons are invited to express their views and suggestions in writing. Comments will be received during the workshop. They can also be sent to DelDOT Community Relations (contact information below).
