250 years ago, a bold vision forever changed the course of history.

On July 4, 1776, our Founding Fathers declared that all people are created equal and are endowed with the unalienable rights of “Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” Those timeless words continue to inspire generations of Americans and remain the foundation of the nation we proudly call home.

Today, as we celebrate America’s 250th Birthday, we honor the courage of those who fought for our independence, the vision of those who built this great nation, and the countless Americans who have defended our freedoms throughout the last two and a half centuries.

The story of America is one of perseverance, sacrifice, innovation, and hope. It is written by ordinary citizens who have accomplished extraordinary things, by communities that stand together in times of triumph and challenge, and by generations who have worked to leave a stronger nation for those who follow.

Here in Townsend, we are proud to be part of that American story. Our community is built on the same values that have guided our nation for 250 years: service, hard work, compassion, and a commitment to our neighbors.

As you celebrate with family and friends today, we encourage everyone to pause for a moment of gratitude, for the freedoms we enjoy, for those who have worn the uniform in defense of our country, for our first responders who serve our community every day, and for the privilege of calling ourselves Americans.

May this Independence Day remind us that while we honor our past, we also have the responsibility to shape our nation’s future with integrity, kindness, and unity.

From all of us at the Town of Townsend, we wish you a joyful, safe, and memorable Fourth of July.

🎇 Happy 250th Birthday, America!

The closing words of the Declaration of Independence remain as powerful today as they were in 1776:

“And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor.”
