ATTENTION ALL VETERANS, ACTIVE DUTY & RESERVE Please mark your calendar for this event.

In recognition of our Townsend Veterans, and all Veterans alike, the Town of Townsend is hosting a Veterans Resource Expo in collaboration with the Townsend Fire Company on Friday, May 17th from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. 

We invite all Veterans to attend this Resource Expo so that you may get connected with organizations that are readily available to help and/or assist you with any needs.

The Town of Townsend is continuing to seek participants for the Annual Townsend Parade that will be begin RAIN or SHINE at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 1st, 2024! Please note, parade registrations are free, to sign-up, please click HERE.  **Deadline to register is Saturday, May 12th, 2024. For additional parade details, see the flyer further below.) 

We are also happy to announce that we will have the following free contests, prizes will be given to all winners:

Townsend Town Hall 141 Main Street Townsend Wednesday 05/08/2024 4:30 PM to 7:30 PM The Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) is seeking public input on proposed pedestrian facility improvements in Townsend. The effort includes missing sidewalk gap connections, crosswalks, and other enhancements. Specific sections of roadway include Main Street from Edgar Road to Chestnut Lane on the north side; Main Street from Cannery Lane to Chestnut Lane on the south side; and South Street from Main Street to Gray Street. The purpose of the public workshop is to present preliminary concepts and obtain input from the public on selected improvements. The in-person public workshop will be conducted on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at the Townsend Town Hall (141 Main St, Townsend) from 4:30 PM until 7:30 PM. The format of the workshop will be an open house with materials available for public review and comment. Members of the project team will be available to answer questions. Workshop materials will also be posted on the project website (www.deldot.gov/information/projects) following the workshop. Interested persons are invited to express their views in writing, giving reasons for support of, or opposition to, the proposed improvements. Comments will be received at the workshop or can be mailed to DelDOT Community Relations P.O. Box 778, Dover, DE 19903, sent via email to dotpr@delaware.gov. Comments will be accepted through Monday, June 17, 2024. This public workshop location is accessible to persons having disabilities. Please join us in a call to action to clean up the Town tomorrow, May 4th, 2024.  If you are interested in volunteering, please click the following link to sign-up: https://forms.office.com/r/aG1GBwUQTx or just show up ready to go. Our meeting location will be at the Town Park Pavilion located at 0 Edgar Road, Townsend, DE 19734.  We ask all volunteers to please dress appropriately and bring your own gloves. PUBLIC NOTICE: Ordinance Updates

During the April 17th, Town Council Public Hearing the following ordinances were heard: 

  • Ordinance 2024-002 – An Ordinance to Amend Section 24.04.060 of the Town Code to Add the Definition of Commercial Vehicle and Section 24.04.090 of the Town Code
  • Ordinance 2024-004 – An Ordinance to Amend Board of Adjustment Appeals
  • Ordinance 2024-008 – An Ordinance to Annex 6170 Summit Bridge Rd

Please be advised, the Town Council will be performing a second reading with a possible vote on the above listed ordinances during the regular Town Council meeting, May 1st, 2024. Residents are encouraged to attend the meeting to make public comment. Each in person attendee and virtual Zoom attendee will have the opportunity to speak for three (3) minutes. Each Zoom attendees should alert staff that they wish to speak at the appropriate time by submitting their name and address via the Zoom chat function during the meeting. Comments may also be sent via email to townhall@townsend.delaware.gov prior to the meeting. Emailed comments will be read into the record during the meeting.
