COMMUNITY NOTICE: Girl Scouts Troop 1220 Silver Award Project

Girl Scouts Troop 1220 will be out this Thursday, April 18th, to begin marking the storm drains within the Town as part of their Silver Award Project.  We urge all residents and anyone passing through Townsend Village I and II, and Townsend Station to, as always, drive cautiously and be on the lookout.  Please also join us in thanking Girl Scouts Troop 1220 for choosing our Town for your project!

For additional details on their project, please see the flyer below:

Troop 1220 Silver Award Project: Marking Storm Drains in Townsend Steps of Our Project ● Submit plan outline and get approved Our Troop presented the project to Townsend Council, and the project was approved ● Place storm drain markers We will use adhesive to stick the storm drain markers to the catch basin curbs in Townsend Village I, Townsend Village II, and Townsend Station. We will wear safety vests and place cones where we’re working. ● Make presentation/video for community impact We hope to make a strong and lasting impact on the community, by making a presentation and/or video to share, so we are able to spread the word to protect our environment Why Our Project Matters When litter goes down the drains it hurts our environment. When trash goes down the storm drains it then goes to our waterways and then hurts animals. Trash can look like food to animals and they could eat it or be tangled in it and get sick. Our project will encourage people not to litter down the storm drains to better our community. Storm drain markers remind people not to litter down the drains. The Silver Award is the highest service award a Cadette Girl Scout can earn. Timeline of Our Project Through the months of April to June, we plan to go out as a Troop to place the markers. By the end of the school year we plan to have earned our Silver Award.
