Townsend Town Hall Closed to Observe Veterans Day

Town Hall will be closed for business on Friday, November 11th,  2022 in honor of Veterans Day.  We thank all who have served.

CANCELED- Mobile Food Pantry @ Immanuel United Methodist Church

Due to expected inclement weather tomorrow, 11/11/22, the Town of Townsend has been notified that the Mobile Food Pantry at Immanuel United Methodist Church has been CANCELED. We will share the rescheduled date once it is shared. 

DE Veterans Support Association- Holiday Food Drive 11/3/22-11/22/22

The Delaware Veterans Support Association is hosting a Holiday Food Drive from November 3rd, 2022- November 22, 2022.  There will be a collection bin on the front porch of Townsend Town Hall at 141 Main St., Townsend, DE 19734.  Thank you for your donations.  

Please help us support 50 Veteran’s and their Families this Christmas.

DVSA is collecting the following food items: ANY nonperishable items!

Canned Vegetables, Fruits, Bread, Rice, Dry Milk, Raisins, Snacks, Water Bottles, Bottled or Powdered Juices, Pasta, Pasta Sauce, Stuffing, Cereals, Dry Milk, Oatmeal, etc!

Personal Hygiene Products will also be accepted.

2022 DVSA Food Drive

NOTICE: Continued Daytime Road Closure- South Street-November 3rd, 2022

Roadwork will continue on Thursday, November 3rd, 2022 to complete the roadway restoration on South St. which was related to the work for sewer line for The Woods at Hidden Creek, beginning at 11:00 am until the work is completed for the day, at which time the roadway will be reopened.  
 
South Street will be continue to be closed during the time of construction, from the Townsend Police Station to Commerce Street 

Drivers and pedestrians are asked to be extra cautious when construction is underway.

NOTICE: Traffic Advisory- Closure- Main St., Townsend, DE

Please take note that Main St. will be closed from Brook Ramble Road to Commerce Street between 2pm- 3 pm tomorrow, Friday 10/28/2022 from 2 pm- 3 pm.    Traffic Control measures and detours will be in place, please take caution when driving in the area.

Pumpkin Patch at Townsend Town Hall on 10/21/22 from 6pm-7:45 pm

Thanks to our Municipal Waste provider, GFL, Townsend Town Hall will turn into a pumpkin patch tomorrow, Friday 10/21/22 from 6pm- 7:45 pm.  

Children are welcome to pickup a pumpkin from the front lawn.  

Thank you to GFL and have a wonderful Harvest season!

Two-way traffic will be permitted during work hours ONLY between the Police Department and Lattomus Street.

Drivers and pedestrians are asked to be extra cautious when two-way traffic patterns are in effect.

Halloween is Here. Be Safe and Stay Healthy!

The Town of Townsend wants everyone to have a safe and fun Halloween.  Halloween is celebrated on Monday, October 31st.  Per Town Council, for the safety of all, trick or treating will be held between the hours of 6 pm and 8 pm for all those wishing to participate.  All trick-or-treaters in costume should be off of the streets by 9 p.m. 

As always, trick-or-treating will be held based on each individual resident’s/family’s preference.

If you would like to give out candy to trick-or-treaters, turn on your porch light. Those wishing not to participate, turn off your porch light.

Please treat your neighbors with respect and remember safety rules by following these general Halloween guidelines:

  • Only visit houses whose porch/front lights are on. 
  • Wear reflectors, reflective clothing and carry a flashlight for safety.
  • Maintain social distancing and wash hands frequently.   
  • If driving, please drive slower and be attentive to increased foot traffic. 
  • Be respectful of Halloween displays and yards. 

In light of Covid-19 please make the best judgement for you and your family while participating safely in this year’s activities. Please refer to the CDC guidance regarding staying safe with indoor and outdoor gatherings:
