Townsend Tennis & Pickleball Court Project
Town of Townsend

The Town of Townsend will receive sealed bids online for the Townsend Tennis & Pickleball Court Project. Online bids are to be received via PennBid™ on October 5, 2020 at 1:00 PM EST at which time they will be opened and read aloud at the offices of the Town Engineer, Remington & Vernick Engineers, located at 262 Chapman Road, Suite 105, Newark, DE 19702.

All documents and solicitation details are available at no cost at PennBid™- www.PennBid.net. For assistance with using or accessing PennBid™, please call (610) 693-4769 between the hours of 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM (EST).

A certified check or bank draft, payable to the order of the Town of Townsend, negotiable U.S. Government Bonds (at par value), or a satisfactory Bid Bond executed by the Bidder and an acceptable surety, in an amount equal to ten percent (10%) of the total bid amount shall be submitted with each Bid. Bonds are to be issued by a surety licensed to do business in the State of Delaware.
The successful Bidder will be required to furnish and pay for Satisfactory Performance and Payment Bond and Labor and Materialmen’s Bond.

The Town of Townsend encourages Minority and Women Business Enterprises to participate in competitively bidding this project.
This project is being funded by DNREC, ORPT – Outdoor Recreation Parks & Trails Program.

Townsend Playground Equipment Remains Closed & Park Pavilion Rentals Canceled through 10/15/2020

With an abundance of caution for our residents and visitors, Town Council has decided, at the 8/19/2020 Town Council meeting, that the Townsend playground equipment will remain closed at the current time, until this can be revisited at the first Town Council Meeting in October.  

In addition, Town Council has suspended Park Pavilion Rentals through October 15, 2020 to aid in the fight against the spread of the Coronavirus.

Joshua Mertz Appointed to Vacant Council Seat

Townsend Mayor and Council appoint resident Joshua Mertz to the vacant Council seat, previously filled by Councilman Anthony Franco, at the August 5, 2020

Town Council Meeting:

Joshua Mertz was appointed to council in August of 2020. The term which he was appointed to fill ends in May 2021.

Joshua cites a desire to build and foster good community as one of the main reasons he has joined the council. Joshua embraces service to the community as a core value, which he would like to model for his family. Joshua previously served as the Townsend Village 2 Maintenance Corporation’s President from 2018-2019.

Joshua works in research and development, where he develops new materials for purifying drinking water. Prior to working in the water industry, Joshua worked in the nuclear waste treatment industry in both Washington (Richland) and Tennessee (Oak Ridge). 

Joshua grew up in Connecticut and earned a bachelor of science degree in Chemistry from Haverford College and a PhD in Inorganic Chemistry from Northwestern University. He has lived in Townsend since 2017 with his wife, Jennifer, and their four children.

 When not serving as a councilman or working in the laboratory, Joshua can be found practicing a number of hobbies including woodworking, photography and refereeing the sport of fencing.

Tropical Storm Isaias Damage Reporting

 

Smryna – The Delaware Emergency Management Agency (DEMA) Emergency Operations Center is requesting that Delaware residents with damage to their properties fill out the following survey report linked below.  This information is important to help determine eligibility for a disaster declaration.

Treat all downed power lines like they are live and do not drive under damaged power lines.  Contact the utility provider to report outages and downed power lines.  Do not drive through flood water or around barricades, “Turn Around, Don’t Drown”.
