Severe Weather Alert for Monday, 8/7/2023

There is a risk for severe thunderstorms this afternoon into this evening producing damaging winds, with a couple tornadoes possible, and heavy downpours leading to some localized urban and small stream flooding.   Locations affected: The entire region is at risk for severe thunderstorms and localized flooding. The highest risk for damaging winds and any tornadoes is generally along and west of a Trenton to Philadelphia to Georgetown line. The highest risk for flooding is along the urban corridor. Refer to the attached graphics.   Timing: This afternoon through this evening. The greatest risk is between 4 PM to 10 PM.   Impacts: Severe thunderstorms could produce damaging wind gusts bringing down trees and power lines resulting in power outages. The National Weather Service in Mount Holly NJ has issued a * Severe Thunderstorm Warning for… Southwestern New Castle County in northern Delaware… Kent County in central Delaware… Northeastern Queen Anne’s County in northeastern Maryland… Northeastern Caroline County in eastern Maryland… Northeastern Kent County in northeastern Maryland… * Until 1045 PM EDT. * At 1006 PM EDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near Chestertown to near Hope to near Denton, moving east at 40 mph. HAZARD…60 mph wind gusts. SOURCE…Radar indicated. IMPACT…Damage to roofs, siding, trees, and power lines is possible.

NWS has issued the following briefing for weather impacts this week; Slight Risk of isolated Severe Thunderstorms today between 5-11 pm according to current forecast for our area. Extreme Heat conditions Wed through Friday with Heat Indices of 100-105 reaching peak on Friday with ambient temp of 97 degrees before humidity is lowered on Saturday with additional storms.  Overall confidence of forecast/hazards is moderate.

REMINDER: 2023 Municipal Waste Service Guidelines

Residents are reminded of the following guidelines for trash, recycling, and yard waste collection.  Please take special notice that only trash should be bagged; recycling and yard waste should not be bagged.  Trash: Please place containers at the curb the night before or no later than 7 a.m. on your scheduled pickup day. Trash must be placed at the curb no earlier than 24 hours prior to scheduled trash pick-up. All trash containers must be removed from the sidewalk area no later than 24 hours after trash pick-up. Trash containers and/or bags should be placed at the edge of the property so as not to block the sidewalk. Pick up times are subject to change. Weather Statement – July 13-14, 2023 – Severe Thunderstorm Risk

NWS has issued an update briefing on the Friday 7/14/2023 afternoon/evening severe weather that contains heavy rains and could produce flash flooding from excessive rainfall amounts.  In addition, damaging winds of 60-70 mph could be contained with in some of the storms. Best chance for showers and thunderstorms remains between 5 PM and 11 PM this evening.  Total rainfall of 1/4  to 1/2 inch.  Another slight chance of thunderstorms on Saturday, and Showers and thunderstorms again on Sunday early AM before daybreak.

Work to be Completed on Townsend Village Ponds

Please be advised that the Town has been informed that work will begin on the ponds in Townsend Village, beginning Monday, 7/17/2023 for approximately 4 weeks.  This work is being done to convert the pond to it’s permanent configuration, following construction being complete in the community.  The pond will be drained with a drain that has been opened on the back of the pump and a gas-powered pump.  Excavators will be working in the bottom of the pond and along its sides.   Silty dirt will be loaded in trucks and removed; and fill dirt will be trucked in to rebuild the sides of the pond.  The plan and schedule is very weather dependent,  the Developer requests our residents to please bear with them as it has been a very wet season so far.  They are hoping to complete the work in a timely manner depending on the weather. NWS issues Severe Thunderstorm Watch from Sun July 9 at 1105 AM until 6 PM & Flood Watch for NCC from July 9 @ Noon until July 10 @ Midnight

NWS Briefing message below on today’s severe weather, heavy rains, and flash flooding potential. NWS has expanded the Flood Watch area to the entire region. Forecast/Timing:  Showers and Thunderstorms mainly after 1 PM, Precip Chance 80%.  Some storms could be severe with damaging winds and heavy rain.  Rainfall amounts between 3/4 and 1 inch is possible.  Tonight – Showers and Thunderstorms mainly before 10 PM, some severe with damaging winds, gusty winds, and heavy rain. Precip Chance 80%. New rainfall amounts between 1/4 and 1/2inch.  Some storms could bring rainfall of 2 inches per hour rates and the total rainfall in those isolated areas will cause flash flooding.  Also a chance of showers and thunderstorms on Monday after 11 AM, a much lesser precip percentage and rainfall amounts.
