Thanks to our Municipal Waste provider, Casella (formerly known as GFL), the Town of Townsend and Townsend Elementary have partnered to create a pumpkin patch during the trunk-or-treat, Friday 10/20/23 from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.   Children are welcome to pickup a pumpkin from the patch at Townsend Elementary.   Thank you to Casella and have a wonderful Harvest season!

DE Veterans Support Association- Holiday Food Drive 10/15/23 – 12/01/23

The Delaware Veterans Support Association is hosting a Holiday Food Drive from October 15th to December 1st, 2023.  There will be a collection bin inside of Townsend Town Hall at 141 Main St., Townsend, DE 19734.  Thank you for your donations.   DVSA is collecting the following food items: ANY nonperishable items! Canned Vegetables, Fruits, Bread, Rice, Dry Milk, Raisins, Snacks, Water Bottles, Bottled or Powdered Juices, Pasta, Pasta Sauce, Stuffing, Cereals, Dry Milk, Oatmeal, etc! Halloween is Here. Be Safe and Stay Healthy!

The Town of Townsend wants everyone to have a safe and fun Halloween.  Halloween is celebrated on Tuesday, October 31st.  Per Town Council, for the safety of all, trick or treating will be held between the hours of 6 pm and 8 pm for all those wishing to participate.  All trick-or-treaters in costume should be off of the streets by 9 p.m.  As always, trick-or-treating will be held based on each individual resident’s/family’s preference. If you would like to give out candy to trick-or-treaters, turn on your porch light. Those wishing not to participate, please turn off your porch light. Please treat your neighbors with respect and remember safety rules by following these general Halloween guidelines: Only visit houses whose porch/front lights are on.  Wear reflectors, reflective clothing and carry a flashlight for safety. October 4: FEMA and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) will conduct a national test of the Integrated Public Alert and Warning System (IPAWS). The scheduled test on October 4 will reach millions of mobile phones across the country via Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA), radio and television via the Emergency Alert System (EAS), and other communication pathways. The test will take place around 2:20 p.m. ET on Wednesday, October 4, 2023. Backup testing is October 11. The national test will help ensure that Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) and the Emergency Alert System (EAS) continue to be effective ways to warn the public about emergencies, particularly those on the national level. Emergency Siren Test on October 3rd, 2023 @ 10:45 a.m.

SMYRNA, Del. – On Tuesday, October 3, at 10:45 a.m., the Delaware Emergency Management Agency (DEMA), Delaware State Police, and the Public Service Enterprise Group Inc. (PSEG), will conduct a regular quarterly test of the Salem/Hope Creek Nuclear Generating Stations Alert and Notification system. Sirens will be activated for three to five minutes, followed by a test message of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) on local radio stations. Sirens tested are the same ones used to alert the public in the event of an actual emergency. There are 37 sirens in Delaware located within a 10-mile radius of the Salem-Hope Creek Generating Stations in New Jersey. The sirens cover an area north from Delaware City, west to Middletown, and south to Woodland Beach. Community Notice: Townsend Station

Please be advised that New Castle County Department of Public Works conducted a test today on the sanitary sewer lines and a dye test on the storm water pipes in Brook Ramble Lane within Townsend Station. Residents may see a fluorescent green hue to the water in the storm water basin located at the intersection of Sunnyside Lane and Brook Ramble Lane.
