Town of Townsend Annual Holiday Decoration Contest

The Town of Townsend is happy to announce that we will be holding the Annual Holiday Decoration Contest.  Each year, Town Council hosts the Holiday Decoration Contest to celebrate the holidays.  This year, there will be two categories for the competition: Displays set to music Displays not set to music Two winners will be announced for each category.   It is not necessary to register your home.  Representatives from Town Council will drive through the Town to explore the wonderful decorations and designate a winner.  Judging will take place on or about December 18, 2021, weather permitting.  All decisions of the judges are final. New Police Chief Takes Office in the Town of Townsend

After extensive review, the Town of Townsend is pleased to announce it has hired Mr. Robert J. Longo as the Chief of Police. Chief Longo began his duties on November 1, 2021, and is working to build a community based and efficient public safety program for the Town.  Chief Longo brings with him an extensive career in law enforcement.  His experience in municipal policing includes grant writing, developing budgets and building community based policies and procedures.  He is an advocate for pro-active community  policing and engaging the community to ensure safe neighborhoods.  “We are very pleased and fortunate to have found such a highly qualified professional as Chief Longo.  We are confident he will build a public safety team with the right balance of professionalism and community centered policing”, said Townsend Mayor Patrick Miller.  Chief Longo has prior military experience, having served in the Army National Guard.  Throughout his career […]

2021 Town of Townsend Veterans Day Event

The Town of Townsend Town Council hosted a Veterans Day Ceremony to honor and recognize all veterans who have served our country.  Mayor Patrick Miller and the Town of Townsend extends its sincere appreciation to First State Military Academy for serving as the color guard and to local Scout Troop 351 for providing support for the event.  Pictures of the ceremony can be found below, as provided by New Castle County Councilman David Carter.

Town of Townsend Veterans Day Ceremony- November 11th, 2021, 11 am

Please join Townsend Town Council in recognizing all veterans who served and in particular those who lost their lives from the M.O.T. area fighting for our country.  This event will be held on November 11th, 2021 at 11 am in the Townsend Municipal Park Gazebo located at 0 Edgar Road, Townsend, DE 19734.   First State Military Academy will serve as color guard. DE Veterans Support Association- Holiday Food Drive

The Delaware Veterans Support Association is hosting a Holiday Food Drive from November 2nd, 2021- December 5th, 2021.  There will be a collection bin on the front porch of Townsend Town Hall at 141 Main St., Townsend, DE 19734.  Thank you for your donations.   Please help us support 50 Veteran’s and their Families this Christmas. DVSA is collecting the following food items: ANY nonperishable items! Canned Vegetables, Pasta, Pasta Sauce, Stuffing, Cereals, Dry Milk, Oatmeal, etc! NOTICE Road Closure Wiggins Mill Road- Detour Routes

TRAFFIC ALERT – New Castle County – Closure of Wiggins Mill Road for Replacement of Culvert  Traffic Information: DelDOT announces to motorists that the following roadway will be closed for the replacement of the culvert. Times and Dates: 7 AM on Monday, November 1 until 4 PM on Tuesday, November 30, pending weather. Location: Wiggins Mill Road between Green Giant Road and Main Street, Townsend. Detour Routes: Westbound traffic on Main Street will turn right onto Grears Corner Road and turn right on Green Giant Road and return to Wiggins Mill Road. Eastbound traffic on Caldwell Corner Road will turn left on Summit Bridge Road northbound and turn left onto Green Giant Road and back to Wiggins Mill Road. NOTICE Road Closure Wiggins Mill Road

Effective Monday November 1, 2021, Delaware Department of Transportation will be closing Wiggins Mill Road from Andy Street to Wilson Street to reconstruct the existing box culvert and widen Wiggins Mill Road to allow for 2 lanes of traffic.   DelDOT is advising that the road will be closed for approximately 3 weeks.  Traffic will be allowed to travel from Green Giant Road to Andy Street for local access.  Traffic will also be allowed on Railroad Avenue to Wilson Street.  Detour signs will be posted for traffic flow.  The Town continues to work with DelDOT officials, Senator Ennis and Representative Spiegelman to add a walking path or sidewalk to the area.
