Seeking Information on Vandalism

The Town Townsend is seeking information relating to the vandalization of the new sidewalk on the west side of Ginn St. just north of Grey Street.  Sometime Friday evening or early Saturday and individual or individuals etched the following names into our new sidewalk “ZAC was here, Lucas, and ben”. In addition, a political slogan was etched into the concrete.  Anyone who has information related to this act of vandalism is asked to call Town Hall at (302) 378-8082

Trash, Recycling, & Yard Waste Service- Moved to Tuesday, September 7th, 2021

Due to the Labor Day Holiday, Trash, Recycling, & Yard Waste Service will not be conducted on Monday, September 6th, 2021 and will be moved to Tuesday, September 7th, 2021.  Collections will resume their normal schedule on Monday, 9/13/21.   Please remember to follow the Yard Waste Guidelines which can be found by clicking here. Town of Townsend Walkable Community Workshop Report

On July 12th, 2021, The Town of Townsend and the Wilmington Area Planning Council (WILMAPCO) hosted a Walkable Communities Workshop.  At this event, workshop participants will learned more about successful pedestrian design, safety, education, enforcement, and encouragement.  A walking audit of this target area was conducted to help participants and WILMAPCO to understand and identify obstacles to walking for residents and suggest potential short-term and long-term solutions. Severe Weather Possible Wednesday into Thursday

Smyrna, DE – The Delaware Emergency Management Agency (DEMA) along with local, state, and federal partners, are closely monitoring the remnant low from Hurricane Ida.  We continue to coordinate with the counties and key state agencies to ensure readiness if the system worsens.  The main threats are anticipated to include rain, flooding, and severe thunderstorms.  A Flash Flood Watch is in effect for all of Delaware from Wednesday morning through Thursday afternoon.  Flooding is expected in creeks, streams, urban areas, and poor drainage areas.   There is an increased risk of severe weather for Delaware Wednesday evening and night including strong to severe thunderstorms causing downed trees and power lines, as well as potential for isolated tornadoes.  Plan ahead now and be prepared.           How to Prepare: Clear drains and gutters and check sump pumps Never drive through flood water: Turn Around, Don’t Drown! 2021 Townsend Town Parade & Festival Postponed

After thoughtful consideration and concerns with the increasing COVID-19 Pandemic threat, the delta variant, and the high transmission rate in New Castle County, the Town of Townsend Town Council, has decided to postpone the Town of Townsend Parade and Town Fair, originally scheduled for September 25th, 2021. Town of Townsend to Return to Open Public Meetings On-Site

The Town of Townsend is returning to open public meetings on-site. In addition, residents or Council who may need to attend virtually may do so with Town Hall serving as an Anchor Site for those that wish to attend in person. The Town Council room has been set up to meet social distancing requirement as prescribed by the CDC and masks must be worn by all participants and witnesses present while in Town Hall. Due to the above requirements, space will be limited. These precautions are necessary as it will not be possible to determine who has been fully vaccinated. Anyone who feels ill or who has been near to someone who has been exposed to or tested positive for the Coronavirus should not attend the meeting in person. 8/11/2021 Planning Commission Meeting- To Be Held In Person & Electronically

Arrangements have been made to hold the Planning Commission meeting for tonight, 8/11/2021 both in person and electronically. Residents may choose to attend meetings in person or via electronic means.  All personnel and visitors entering Town Hall must wear masks and comply with all CDC guidelines, including social distancing guidelines.  Those that are sick or who have been exposed to the COVID-19 virus are asked to not enter Town Hall and may attend the meeting virtually.
