NOTICE: Snow Emergency Declared at 6:30 pm, Monday, January 15th, 2024 Has Now Ended

The Snow Emergency that was declared as of 6:30 pm on Monday, January 15, 2024 has now ended as of 2 pm on Tuesday, January 16th, 2024.  Town streets have been plowed and salted thanks to our snowplow contractor.  Thank you to all for your cooperation with removing motor vehicles parked on the even numbered addressed side of the roads within the corporate limits of Townsend and for shoveling your sidewalks.

NOTICE Declaration of Snow Emergency Out of an abundance of caution and due to the weather forecast, in accordance with Section 10.08.010 of the Municipal Code of the Town of Townsend, a Declaration of Snow Emergency has been issued in the Town of Townsend as of 6:30 PM, today, Monday, January 15th, 2024 through Tuesday, January 16th, 2024. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory through 1pm, Tuesday, January 16th.  The area is forecasted for mixed precipitation with snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches and ice accumulations of a light glaze.  The heaviest snow is predicted for Monday evening.  Snow is expected to become a wintry mix after midnight and may briefly change to plain rain Tuesday morning before tapering off  Residents are advised of potentially slippery road conditions. The NWS Latest Briefing Can be found at https://www.weather.gov/media/phi/current_briefing.pdf Key Points: Rain moves in tomorrow evening through the night Around 1” of rain can be expected with locally 1.5” Creeks and Streams are still running high and saturated grounds could cause more flooding concerns. We are not expecting as severe or widespread flooding as we saw Tuesday Night. A Flood Watch has been issued for the entire county. Once again expecting gusty conditions with sustained winds of 20-30mph and gusts 40-50mph overnight. Minor Coastal Flooding is expected, would expect a coastal flood advisory be posted soon. 2024 Municipal Waste Service Guidelines

Residents are reminded of the following guidelines for trash, recycling, and yard waste collection.  Please take special notice that only trash should be bagged; recycling and yard waste should not be bagged.  Trash: Please place containers at the curb the night before or no later than 7 a.m. on your scheduled pickup day. Trash must be placed at the curb no earlier than 24 hours prior to scheduled trash pick-up. All trash containers must be removed from the sidewalk area no later than 24 hours after trash pick-up. Trash containers and/or bags should be placed at the edge of the property so as not to block the sidewalk. Pick up times are subject to change. A potential major storm is expected to affect our region tomorrow, 1/9/24 afternoon through Wednesday 1/10/24.  Please stay up to date on the developing storm and note the following: with an extended period of moderate to heavy rain and possibly even some thunderstorms Tuesday night.
