    COVID-19 TESTING

If anyone wants to get tested for COVID-19, Delaware and New Castle County have created websites to register for testing.  If you have symptoms, you should contact your local physician.   However, asymptomatic residents anywhere in Delaware, including Smyrna and Kent County, can find testing and register for texting sites via: Http://coronavirus.delaware.gov/testing

For New Castle County the following website has been established to register:  https://delaware.curativeinc.com/welcome .  For some, sites in Kent County or Smyrna may be closer and more available.

    Planning Commission Members Needed

    Planning Commission Members Needed

The Town of Townsend is seeking residents to serve as volunteers on the Planning Commission. The Planning Commission works with residents and is an advisory board to the Mayor and Council.

The Commission oversees the comprehensive planning process, helping to determine aims and ambitions of our community, including reviewing land use, zoning, planning and development applications. The Planning Commission also is responsible to update and prepare a draft Comprehensive Plan for review by the residents, Mayor and Council.

Specific information on the Planning Commission can be found at: https://townsend.delaware.gov/committees/

Members of the Planning Commission are appointed by the Mayor and Council. Members  are expected to participate in monthly meetings on the second Wednesday of each month unless otherwise posted.

Come share your knowledge and ideas to better our community. If interested, send a letter of interest to tmcdonald@townsend.delaware.gov. Please provide a statement of why you wish to be appointed to the Planning Commission and relevant experience you may have.   You must be a resident of the Town of Townsend to be considered.

Cancellation of June and July Movie Nights in the Park

Due to current restrictions due to the COVID-19 Pandemic and the uncertainty of when the State will lift all restrictions, Town Council voted at its May 6, 2020 meeting to cancel Townsend’s movie nights that were scheduled for June 12 and July 10, 2020.  We are hoping conditions improve so that we will be able to proceed with the movie night scheduled for August 14th.

2020 Census: We are not done yet!

It’s not too late, and it is still essential to Townsend to respond to the 2020 Census while being safe and practicing social distancing at home. Once you have responded, please encourage your family, friends and loved ones to complete the census so we can get the resources we need to thrive. Currently, about half of our households have responded.  Half the response can mean half the resources for our community.  Take a few minutes and help shape our future by going to www.2020census.gov.

IMPORTANT NOTICE FROM WASTE INDUSTRIES (GFL)

The GFL staff is working hard to continue to provide support to our communities during this difficult time. The health of staff is very important.  We are doing everything we can to keep them safe while they do their jobs.  Even though staff is provided Personal Protective Equipment, we still need your help.  We are requesting that you place all of your waste inside trash cans to eliminate the need for the GFL Team team to touch the bags. For the same reason, we are asking residents to minimize the amount of bulk items that they put out.
