“RESPECT DAY” at Townsend Elementary School

October 19, 2016 will be designated as “RESPECT DAY” at Townsend Elementary School (TES).

In an effort to help make TES a more respectful civil society, Second Grade has decided to hold a day specifically devoted to encouraging respect.  Prior to this day, they will be selling Respect necklaces (made by the students) for $1 per necklace.

On Wednesday, October 19th, all of the students at TES will be encouraged to WEAR ORANGE (this is also National Unity Day) and be SUPER respectful to others.  Peers will nominate their classmates who are “caught’ being extra respectful throughout the day and certificates will be given to those students who are being SUPER respectful.

The students who purchase a necklace to support the cause will give their necklaces to a peer that has followed the Golden Rule towards them.  “Treat others as you would like to be treated.”  The necklaces will be passed around throughout the school year to continuously promote the practice of being respectful all year long.

PROCEEDS WILL BE USED TO PURCHASE & INSTALL A “BUDDY BENCH” ON THE TES PLAYGROUND.

The “Buddy Bench” is a playground/recess management tool used to encourage students to include others in their playtime.  This will be a HUGE asset to building our school culture.
