    Christmas Caroling/Tree Lighting – December 8th

    Holiday Lighting Contest

    The votes are in and it was a tough choice as there were so many homes displaying really great holiday lights.   Congratulation to the following winners of the Townsend Holiday Lighting Contest, who were announced at the January 8, 2020 Council Meeting:

    Announcing “Let Your Lights Shine” – Townsend’s 3rd annual Holiday Lights Contest.

    Let’s shine bright for the holidays.  1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes will be awarded to the best decorated homes located in the incorporated Town of Townsend. 

    Contact Town Hall at 302-378-8082 or townhall@townsend.delaware.gov to register YOUR HOME ADDRESS for consideration.  The registration form may also be faxed to Town Hall on 302-378-7099.

    Judging will take place on Monday and Tuesday evenings, December 16th and 17th. 

     

     

     

    Resident Feedback to New Castle County Master Plan Draft

    The Town of Townsend is encouraging its residents to review and comment on the proposed New Castle County Master Plan, which will greatly impact the future development and services available to the Town.

    This rough draft is based on various communications and meetings that the County held over the past year with its partner agencies, advisory committee members and residents.

    Town Hall closed Monday, November 11, 2019

    Town Hall will be closed on Monday November 11, 2019 in observance of Veteran’s Day.

    Trash and recycling will be picked up on Monday, as usual.

    Stockings for Soldiers

    Townsend Trick or Treat Hours

    Trick or Treat Hours for 2019 will be observed on Thursday, October 31st  from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

    Planning Commission Members Needed

    The Town of Townsend is seeking residents to serve as volunteers on the Planning Commission. The Planning Commission works with residents and is an advisory board to the Mayor and Council.

    The Commission oversees the comprehensive planning process, helping to determine aims and ambitions of our community, including reviewing land use, zoning, planning and development applications. The Planning Commission also is responsible to update and prepare a draft Comprehensive Plan for review by the residents, Mayor and Council.

    Members of the Planning Commission are appointed by the Mayor and Council. Members  are expected to participate in monthly meetings on the second Wednesday of each month unless otherwise posted.

    Come share your knowledge and ideas to better our community. If interested, send a letter of interest to tmcdonald@townsend.delaware.gov. Please provide a statement of why you wish to be appointed to the Planning Commission and relevant experience you may have.   You must be a resident of the Town of Townsend to be considered.

    Town Hall Closed October 14, 2019

    Town Hall will be closed on Monday, October 14, 2019 in observance of the Columbus Day Holiday.  Trash and recycling will be picked up on Monday as usual.

    NEW TAX PROPOSAL & BILLING CHANGES

    A series of informal Town Hall meetings will be held by Mayor Tom McDonald to discuss the new tax proposal and  changes in the Town’s billing system.  In order to facilitate communication, an effort has been made to limit the number of people scheduled at any one time.  Meetings are scheduled from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m., as follows:

    10/8 – Heart of Town (Main, Ginn, Gray, Walnut, Cannery, Niles, South, Commerce, Taylor, Wilson, Chestnut, Railroad)

    10/10 – Townsend Station (Entire Development)

    10/15 – TVII – South, Hanson, Melvin, Margist

    10/17 – TVII – Karins, Ginn, Esch, Bunker, Barcus

    10/22 – TVII – Feret, Andy, Founds, Myers, Wiggins Mill

    10/24 – TVI – Merle, Hugh, Jamie, Marilyn

    10/29 – TVI – Edgar, Kaitlyn, Helen

    11/5 – Additional Meeting

    Hydrant Flushing

    Artesian Water has notified the Town that they will be flushing hydrants in the area next week (week ending 10-5-19).   You may notice discoloration in water for a short period of time.
