The Town of Townsend is currently seeking applicants to fill ONE (1) open seat on the Planning Commission. This position is appointed by the Town Council and carries a three‑year term.

The Planning Commission plays a vital role in shaping the future development of Townsend. Members are responsible for reviewing zoning ordinances, updating zoning maps, advising the Town Council and Board of Adjustment on zoning amendments, and contributing to the development and maintenance of the Town’s Comprehensive Plan.

About the Planning Commission

  • Consists of five members, including one member from the Board of Adjustment.
  • Members are appointed for three‑year terms.

  • Helps ensure responsible community planning and long‑term growth.

The Town of Townsend will hold its Annual Town Council Election on Saturday, May 2, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Two Council seats will be open for election.
-Applications will be open beginning February 27, 2026.
-Petitions of Candidacy must be submitted to Town Hall no later than 4:30 p.m. on March 26, 2026.

The Town of Townsend is accepting applications for the position of Temporary Part-Time Public Works (PW) Crew Member.

Position Overview

The Temporary Part-Time PW Crew Member will assist the Public Works Department in maintaining and enhancing the Town’s public spaces. This is a temporary, part-time position with a flexible schedule based on departmental needs.

Primary Duties

Duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting with cleanup and maintenance of Town parks, streets, rights-of-way, and facilities

  • Operating landscaping and lawn care equipment

  • Weed trimming, brush removal, and storm drain clearing

  • Lifting and moving materials as needed

  • Assisting with setup for special events

  • Maintaining Public Works equipment and tools

  • Performing other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Ability to lift and carry materials (e.g., at least 25–50 lbs)
  • Valid driver’s license required

  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions

  • Experience with landscaping or maintenance equipment is a plus

  • Must be able to work both independently and as part of a team

Additional Requirements

  • Selected applicants may be required to pass a background check and drug screening prior to hire

  • Demonstrated professionalism and positive attitude when interacting with the public

Hours & Pay

  • Part-time, temporary with approximately 20–30 hrs/week depending on workload

  • Hourly rate dependent on experience

The Town of Townsend hereby declares a Snow Emergency in anticipation of the upcoming winter storm, in accordance with Town of Townsend Municipal Code §§ 10.08.010 and 10.08.020.

Snow Emergency Effective Period

Saturday, January 24, 2026 at 5:00 PM
through
Monday, January 26, 2026 at 5:00 PM

Parking Restrictions

During the Snow Emergency, all vehicles are prohibited from parking on Town streets.

🚗 All vehicles must be removed from streets no later than 5:00 PM on Saturday, January 24, 2026.

These restrictions are necessary to allow Public Works crews and emergency services to safely and efficiently clear roadways during the storm.

Vehicles parked on Town streets during the Snow Emergency may be subject to ticketing and/or towing.

Residents are encouraged to plan accordingly and monitor Town communications for updates as conditions evolve.

RFP- PW Facility

The Town of Townsend is soliciting sealed proposals from qualified and licensed contractors for the construction of a new Public Works Facility.

RFP Issued: January 1, 2026

Bidders Meeting: Friday, Janaury 16th, 2026 @12pm (Townhall)

Proposals Due: January 31, 2026, by 12:00 p.m.


Project Overview

The project includes construction of a 30’ x 90’ Public Works building on a 40’ x 100’ reinforced concrete foundation. The facility will support Public Works operations, including vehicle and equipment storage, maintenance activities, and materials handling. The building is expected to be durable, functional, and cost‑efficient, with utility rough‑ins to accommodate future expansion.


Scope of Work Includes (but is not limited to):

  • Site preparation and civil work
  • Concrete foundation construction
  • Building structure and exterior envelope
  • Garage doors, access doors, and openings
  • Electrical, plumbing, and mechanical utility rough‑ins
  • Exterior grading, drainage, and stormwater considerations
  • Permitting coordination and code compliance
