School Closing Info from Appoquinimink School District
How will you know if school is cancelled/delayed this winter?
When bad weather is predicted, the Appoquinimink School District tracks national weather reports, confers with neighboring school districts and the Department of Transportation, and put drivers on the road to check the status of bus routes and area neighborhoods. We make a decision as early as possible – typically between 5:30-6:00 am – then begin communicating our status to parents and staff. If a delay or cancellation is needed, families with a student enrolled in the district will get a phone call and email message at the address on file for your family, and notices will be posted on our websites and Facebook. Be sure to contact the school if you’ve made any changes!
ANNOUNCEMENTS WILL ALSO BE POSTED ON:
School & District Websites – under the NEWS heading;
The District’s free Mobile App;
Our Facebook page, www.facebook.com/AppoSchoolDistrict so that members of the community who do not have a child in school can stay informed.
An email announcement will be sent via the State School Closing Website to individuals who have registered there.
Radio Stations WDEL 101.7 FM and 99.5 WJBR will be alerted.
WEATHER CONDITIONS CAN VARY IN OUR LARGE DISTRICT
Before posting comments online, we ask you to be sensitive to the fact that weather conditions may vary greatly between homes in the north and south of our district. Any decisions about delays or cancellations will reflect our #1 priority, that is, our perceived ability to safely transport students from all four corners of the district.
NOVICE DRIVERS
If you have a novice driver or believe the weather conditions in your neighborhood make it unsafe to send your student to school, we will respect your right to keep your child home that day. Be advised that your student will be responsible for any missed homework or tests, and must bring in a signed note from you the following day. If, at any time, you need to discuss a sensitive issue about your student’s bus transportation, please contact the Principal or Asst. Principal at your child’s school or email our Transportation Department, transportation@appo.k12.de.us
