Emergency Sirens Test- Tuesday, October 5th, 2021 around 10:45 a.m.
Date Posted: Monday, October 4th, 2021A test of the Salem/Hope Creek Nuclear Generating Stations Alert and Notification System will be conducted by the Delaware Emergency Management Agency and the Delaware State Police on Tuesday, October 5, 2021. The sirens should sound at approximately 10:45am. The Quarterly Siren Test involves a three-to five-minute sounding of the 37 sirens followed by a test message of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) on local radio stations. The sirens are located within 10 miles of the Salem/Hope Creek power plants in New Jersey, and are the same sirens used to alert the public in the event of an actual emergency at either the Salem or Hope Creek Nuclear Generating Stations. In such an emergency, the public would be alerted by the sirens to tune radios to one of the local EAS stations for important emergency instructions. To learn more, please follow this link here.

Municipal Waste Service Guidelines
Date Posted: Tuesday, September 14th, 2021Residents are reminded of the following guidelines for trash, recycling, and yard waste collection. Please take special notice that only trash should be bagged; recycling and yard waste should not be bagged. Trash: Please place containers at the curb the night before or no later than 7 a.m. on your scheduled pickup day. Trash must be placed at the curb no earlier than 24 hours prior to scheduled trash pick-up. All trash containers must be removed from the sidewalk area no later than 24 hours after trash pick-up. Trash containers and/or bags should be placed at the edge of the property so as not to block the sidewalk. Pick up times are subject to change. Sometime Friday evening or early Saturday and individual or individuals etched the following names into our new sidewalk “ZAC was here, Lucas, and ben”. Town of Townsend Walkable Community Workshop Report
Date Posted: Thursday, September 2nd, 2021On July 12th, 2021, The Town of Townsend and the Wilmington Area Planning Council (WILMAPCO) hosted a Walkable Communities Workshop. At this event, workshop participants will learned more about successful pedestrian design, safety, education, enforcement, and encouragement. A walking audit of this target area was conducted to help participants and WILMAPCO to understand and identify obstacles to walking for residents and suggest potential short-term and long-term solutions. At the September 1, 2021 Town Council Meeting, WILMAPCO presented their findings and suggestions for the Town of Townsend. Severe Weather Possible Wednesday into Thursday
Date Posted: Tuesday, August 31st, 2021Smyrna, DE – The Delaware Emergency Management Agency (DEMA) along with local, state, and federal partners, are closely monitoring the remnant low from Hurricane Ida. We continue to coordinate with the counties and key state agencies to ensure readiness if the system worsens. The main threats are anticipated to include rain, flooding, and severe thunderstorms. A Flash Flood Watch is in effect for all of Delaware from Wednesday morning through Thursday afternoon. Flooding is expected in creeks, streams, urban areas, and poor drainage areas. There is an increased risk of severe weather for Delaware Wednesday evening and night including strong to severe thunderstorms causing downed trees and power lines, as well as potential for isolated tornadoes.
