Date Posted: Thursday, January 20th, 2022NOTICE Declaration of Snow Emergency Due to Weather forecast and in accordance with Section 10.08.010 of the Municipal Code of the Town of Townsend, a Declaration of Emergency has been issued in the Town of Townsend at 6 AM, today, Thursday, January 20, 2022. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory until 1 pm, today, Thursday, January 20th, 2022. The area is forecasted for a wintery mix, followed by snow accumulations of 1-2 inches. Residents are advised of the potential for a slippery commute as the rain turns to snow this morning. Residents with even numbered addresses are directed to remove all motor vehicles that are parked on the side of any road within the corporate limits of Townsend. Departure of Town Manager Anthony Mangeri
Date Posted: Friday, January 14th, 2022After almost 3 years of service, Town Manager Anthony Mangeri, MPA, CPM, CEM has chosen to move on to a new position and will be leaving the Town of Townsend effective Friday, January 14, 2021. Ms. Antonina Tantillo, MPA, Deputy Town Manager/Town Clerk, will serve as Interim Town Manager. During his tenure with the Town, Mr. Mangeri was instrumental in professionalizing the Town Administration and fostering an environment of transparency and accountability. He will be missed. Winter Weather Advisory Issued Until 10 AM, Friday, January 7th, 2022
Date Posted: Thursday, January 6th, 2022The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory until Friday, January 7, 2022, at 10:00AM. The area is forecasted for snow accumulations of 3 to 5 inches for central and northern Delaware. Residents should plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning commute. Slow down and use caution while traveling. The latest road conditions for the state you are calling from can be obtained by calling 5-1-1. Residents with even numbered addresses are advised to move their vehicles to their driveway or to the side of the street with odd numbered addresses. This is to allow for efficient snow removal operations. A Declaration of Snow Emergency is expected to be issued pending the continued tracking of the storm. In addition, residents are requested to remove GFL Containers from curbside to allow snow plows to safely operate.

Snow Emergency on January 3, 2022, ending on January 4, 2022
Date Posted: Tuesday, January 4th, 2022Thank you to all that worked hard to clear the sidewalks and areas of our Town. The Snow Emergency was issued the morning of January 3, 2022, and ended this morning, in accordance with § 10.08.010 of the Town Code. Unfortunately, some vehicles were not moved in accordance with the order. This significantly delayed slow removal operations. Residents are reminded that failure to remove vehicles as directed in a snow emergency may result in the vehicle being towed in accordance with the Town Code, § 10.08.020 Impoundment of Vehicles Parked on Streets During Snow and Ice Emergencies. This is a reminder that residents are required to clear all sidewalks of snow and ice following a snowstorm. Residents are also urged to not park their vehicles across the sidewalk. Emergency Sirens To Be Tested on Tuesday, January 4th, 2022 at approximately 10:45 am
Date Posted: Monday, January 3rd, 2022A test of the Salem/Hope Creek Nuclear Generating Stations Alert and Notification System will be conducted by the Delaware Emergency Management Agency and the Delaware State Police on Tuesday, January 4, 2022. The sirens should sound at approximately 10:45am. The Quarterly Siren Test involves a three-to five-minute sounding of the 37 sirens followed by a test message of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) on local radio stations. The sirens are located within 10 miles of the Salem/Hope Creek power plants in New Jersey, and are the same sirens used to alert the public in the event of an actual emergency at either the Salem or Hope Creek Nuclear Generating Stations. In such an emergency, the public would be alerted by the sirens to tune radios to one of the local EAS stations for important emergency instructions. Learn more by clicking here
