DNREC offers the Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) at no cost to qualified low-income families to reduce energy costs.
Date Posted: Tuesday, October 6th, 2020Weatherization Program Helps Delawareans Invest in Their Homes Program is Free to Delaware Families Who Qualify It’s time for Delawareans to prepare their homes for winter weather. The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control offers the Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) at no cost to qualified low-income families to reduce energy costs. DNREC encourages Delaware homeowners and renters to review the eligibility guidelines at https://de.gov/wap to then receive a free energy audit. An auditor will determine the services to improve the energy efficiency of the homes. Typical services include air-sealing, insulation, heating system repair, lighting upgrades and minor repairs that are necessary to complete energy-saving measures. Last year, 195 Delawareans benefited from this program, with an average estimated savings of $283 per home per year, according to the U.S. Department of Energy. Emergency Sirens To Be Tested Tuesday, October 6th, 2020 around 10:45 am
Date Posted: Monday, October 5th, 2020Smyrna, DE – The Delaware Emergency Management Agency (DEMA) and Delaware State Police will conduct a quarterly test of the Salem/Hope Creek Nuclear Generating Stations Alert and Notification system on Tuesday, October 6, 2020. The sirens will sound at around 10:45 a.m. The 37 sirens located within ten miles of the Salem/Hope Creek (New Jersey) plants will be activated for three to five minutes. The siren tests will be followed by a test message of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) on local radio stations. Sirens that will be tested are the same sirens used to alert the public in the event of an actual emergency at either the Salem or Hope Creek Nuclear Generating Stations. In such an emergency, the public would be alerted by the sirens to tune their radios to one of the local EAS stations for important emergency instructions. Every year, billions of dollars in federal funding go to hospitals, fire departments, schools, roads, and other resources based on census data. The results of the census also determine the number of seats each state will have in the U.S. House of Representatives, and they are used to draw congressional and state legislative districts. It’s also in the Constitution: Article 1, Section 2, mandates that the country conduct a count of its population once every 10 years. Code Enforcement Officer/Building Inspector will be responsible for conducting investigations and ensuring compliance with all Town Codes and related ordinances. The employee may issue citations and bring violators in Magistrate Court and may testify if necessary. Employee will work under general supervision of the Town Manager. The Code Enforcement Officer/Building Inspector will be required to maintain confidentiality and prepare reports and keep appropriate records. Qualified applicants must have excellent communication skills, proficiency with computers, and a valid driver’s license with good driving record. Unanticipated Disruption in Trash Services
Date Posted: Tuesday, September 22nd, 2020Late yesterday afternoon Townhall was notified that there were difficulties in collection of garbage and recyclables in a portion of Town. All garbage and recyclables should be collected by the end of today. The Town Manager has been in touch with GFL to assure that plans are being put in place to manage any disruption in service. The delay is being caused by the temporary closure of the Pine Tree Solid Waste Transfer Station for improvements. This means that trucks must travel over an hour and a half each way to offload in Felton, DE. GFL is working with the Town to assure that there is a proper contingency plan in place until the Pine Tree Solid Waste Transfer Station reopens.
