Welcome to Extinguish Your Thirst – Townsend Fire Company Pop Up Craft Beer Night! Join us at Townsend Fire Company Station 26 for a night of delicious craft beers and good company. Come hang out with fellow beer connoisseur or just looking for a fun night out, this event is perfect for you. Don’t miss out on this unique opportunity to enjoy some great brews in a cool setting. Event will feature craft beers from Volunteer Brewing, Crooked Hammoch, First State Brewing, and JAKL Brew Works, great live music by Roger Girke and his Blues Band on the Hay Wagon Stage, and Barbecue. There will also be a few fire trucks for the kids to climb aboard and learn about.

ANNOUNCING: Town Council Seat Filled & Town Meeting Rules

The Town of Townsend Mayor and Council appoint resident Dylan K. Wiggins to the vacant Council seat, previously filled by Councilman Joshua Mertz, at the July 10, 2024 Town Council Meeting.  On Wednesday, August 7th, Mr. Wiggins was officially sworn in during Town Council meeting. 

Councilman Dylan K. Wiggins is the newest member to serve the Town of Townsend as a council board member and was sworn in on August 7, 2024. Councilman Wiggins is a Philadelphia native and received his early education in the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and in the Willingboro and Winslow Township, New Jersey school districts. After high school, Councilman Wiggins attended Delaware State University, where he focused his studies in Sociology with an emphasis in Criminal Justice. Upon graduating in 2004, Councilman Wiggins served as a Police Officer for the City of Newark, Delaware for approximately nine years thereafter. As an officer, Councilman Wiggins served and represented the department as a Community Policing Officer in the western area of the City of Newark. Notably, in 2009, Councilman Wiggins became the first black Detective in Newark Police Department history, following his appointment as Detective in the Criminal Investigations Division, Special Investigations Unit.

Councilman Wiggins is equipped with approximately 20 years of public service experience via law enforcement, and through partnerships with local community groups. Councilman Wiggins previously served his former local community as the President of the Bristol Place Community Association in Newark, DE for approximately ten years. Additionally, Councilman Wiggins is a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Incorporated and the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives and has further maintained community and civic engagement by serving as a football and basketball coach for the YMCA of Delaware-Bear Glasgow Branch and i9Sports in Newark and Middletown, DE.  Councilman Wiggins also serves as Chairman of the Deacon Board at his church in the greater Newark area.

As a current employee for the United States Department of Justice, Councilman Wiggins continues to serve not only local Delawareans, but Americans across the country. Councilman Wiggins has been married to his lovely wife Tracey for nearly sixteen years and has two children who are the central focus of his life. Councilman Wiggins is excited and humbled to continue his service on the home-front and looks forward to continuing to make the Town of Townsend, Delaware the premier place to live, grow, and thrive.

Please be advised the South Street-Traffic Changes Survey is now closed.  The Public Works and Land Use Development (PWLUD) Committee will be reviewing the results at their meeting this Thursday, August 22nd at 6 p.m.  All are welcomed to join the PWLUD Committee meeting to provide their feedback in-person.  Those wishing to attend virtually may dial 1(301)715-8592. 2024 Town of Townsend Town Council Committee Assignments

During the Town Council reorganization meeting on Wednesday, June 5th, 2024, the newly re-elected Townsend Town Council member Scott Lobdell was sworn in.  At the same meeting, the Town Council re-elected Scott Lobdell to serve as the Mayor, for a one-year term.  Mayor Lobdell appointed Townsend Town Council member Matthew Chapman to the Code Review Committee with future committee assignments to be determined once appointment for the replacement of Joshua Mertz’ seat is announced.  Furthermore, the Social Services Committee was renamed the Veterans & Social Services Committee.

During the regular Town Council meeting on Wednesday, August 9th, 2024, newly appointed Townsend Town Council member Dylan K. Wiggins was sworn in.  Following Councilman Wiggins swearing in, Mayor Lobdell finalized appointments of the following Councilmembers to the following Committees:
