Cut down any trees over 6’ tall. Tree bags are not allowed in the sleigh. Place the trees at the curb the night before. Emergency Sirens To Be Tested on Tuesday, January 4th, 2022 at approximately 10:45 am

A test of the Salem/Hope Creek Nuclear Generating Stations Alert and Notification System will be conducted by the Delaware Emergency Management Agency and the Delaware State Police on Tuesday, January 4, 2022.  The sirens should sound at approximately 10:45am. The Quarterly Siren Test involves a three-to five-minute sounding of the 37 sirens followed by a test message of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) on local radio stations.  The sirens are located within 10 miles of the Salem/Hope Creek power plants in New Jersey, and are the same sirens used to alert the public in the event of an actual emergency at either the Salem or Hope Creek Nuclear Generating Stations.  In such an emergency, the public would be alerted by the sirens to tune radios to one of the local EAS stations for important emergency instructions. Snow Emergency Declared for Monday, January 3rd, 2022

A Snow Emergency has been issued in the Town of Townsend.   Residents with even numbered addresses are directed to remove all motor vehicles that are parked on the side of any road within the corporate limits of Townsend.  Parking of all vehicles on the even numbered addresses side of street is hereby prohibited and will remain prohibited during the continuance of the snow emergency. Parking on the side of the Townsend maintained streets bearing odd-numbered addresses is permitted.  Also, due to impending severe weather, there will not be trash collection today. Trash and recyclables will be collected tomorrow, Tuesday, January 4th, 2022. Do not put trash cans out today as it will interfere with snow removal operations.

Pending Severe Weather Conditions

Weather forecasts are reporting a Severe Winter Storm to begin overnight in our area. Current forecast is for rain turning to snow by 4 AM Monday. Snow is expected throughout the day with the potential for heavy accumulation. The Town snowplow contractor has been placed on standby. Residents are requested to remove their vehicles from roadways by 7 AM to allow for efficient snow removal operations. Townsend offices will be closed to the public. Staff will be working remotely to meet the needs of our residents.

Townsend Town Meetings to Temporarily Return to Virtual Format & Town Hall to be Closed to the Public

With substantial increases in the positivity rate and number of new positive cases in and around the Town, Town Council will be returning to a virtual meeting on January 5 at 7:30 PM. In addition, staff will be available via telephone and email and will be scheduled to assure services to our residents. Individuals who have payments or other items to drop off at Town Hall are asked to mail materials to Town Hall or use use the dropbox which will be monitored daily.   Currently, the positivity rate in our zip code is approximately four times greater than the state 7-day floating average. In addition, there have been approximately 90 new cases in our zip code over the last seven days. 2021 Town of Townsend Tree Lighting & Caroling Event
