Halloween is Here. Be Safe and Stay Healthy!

The Town of Townsend wants everyone to have a safe and fun Halloween.  Halloween is celebrated on Saturday, October 31st.  Per Town Council, for the safety of all, trick or treating will be held between the hours of 6 pm and 8 pm for all those wishing to participate.  All trick-or-treaters in costume should be off of the streets by 9 p.m.  This year, trick-or-treating will be held based on each individual resident’s/family’s preference. If you would like to give out candy to trick-or-treaters, turn on your porch light. Those wishing not to participate, turn off your porch light. Please treat your neighbors with respect and remember safety rules by following these general Halloween guidelines: Only visit houses whose porch/front lights are on.  Wear reflectors, reflective clothing and carry a flashlight for safety. Townsend Playground Equipment Remains Closed & Park Pavilion Rentals Canceled Through the End of the Year

With an abundance of caution for our residents and visitors, Town Council has decided, at the 10/7/2020 Town Council meeting, that the Townsend playground equipment, basketball court, and skate park, and will remain closed through the end of the year.   In addition, Town Council has suspended Park Pavilion Rentals through the end of the year to aid in the fight against the spread of the Coronavirus.

Free Drive-Thru COVID-19 Testing at Appo Schools

All adults and K-12 students will be required to wear a face covering. DNREC offers the Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) at no cost to qualified low-income families to reduce energy costs.

Weatherization Program Helps Delawareans Invest in Their Homes Program is Free to Delaware Families Who Qualify It’s time for Delawareans to prepare their homes for winter weather. The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control offers the Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) at no cost to qualified low-income families to reduce energy costs. DNREC encourages Delaware homeowners and renters to review the eligibility guidelines at https://de.gov/wap to then receive a free energy audit. An auditor will determine the services to improve the energy efficiency of the homes. Typical services include air-sealing, insulation, heating system repair, lighting upgrades and minor repairs that are necessary to complete energy-saving measures. Last year, 195 Delawareans benefited from this program, with an average estimated savings of $283 per home per year, according to the U.S. Department of Energy. Emergency Sirens To Be Tested Tuesday, October 6th, 2020 around 10:45 am

Smyrna, DE – The Delaware Emergency Management Agency (DEMA) and Delaware State Police will conduct a quarterly test of the Salem/Hope Creek Nuclear Generating Stations Alert and Notification system on Tuesday, October 6, 2020.  The sirens will sound at around 10:45 a.m. The 37 sirens located within ten miles of the Salem/Hope Creek (New Jersey) plants will be activated for three to five minutes.  The siren tests will be followed by a test message of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) on local radio stations.  Sirens that will be tested are the same sirens used to alert the public in the event of an actual emergency at either the Salem or Hope Creek Nuclear Generating Stations.  In such an emergency, the public would be alerted by the sirens to tune their radios to one of the local EAS stations for important emergency instructions.
